Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS)

GDACS is a cooperation framework between the United Nations, the European Commission and disaster managers worldwide to improve alerts, information exchange and coordination in the first phase after major sudden-onset disasters.

World Meteorological Organization (WMO)

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is an intergovernmental organization with a membership of 193 Member States and Territories. It originated from the International Meteorological Organization (IMO), the roots of which were planted at the 1873 Vienna International Meteorological Congress.

Established by the ratification of the WMO Convention on 23 March 1950, WMO became the specialised agency of the United Nations for meteorology (weather and climate), operational hydrology and related geophysical sciences a year later.

The Secretariat, headquartered in Geneva, is headed by the Secretary-General. Its supreme body is the World Meteorological Congress.

SADC - Climate Services Centre (CSC)

The SADC Climate Services Centre provides operational, regional services for monitoring and predicting extremes in climate condition. The Centre develops and disseminates meteorological, environmental and hydro-meteorological products.

The Centre’s products contribute to improved disaster risk management in the region and help to ensure Member States are better prepared for weather and climate disasters, conservation and protection of natural resources.
