The National Avian and Pandemic Influenza Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan (NAPIP), revises, updates and replaces the National Avian Influenza Emergency Preparedness and Response Strategic Plan (EPRP) of 2006/7-2008/9 which articulated measures for prevention of introduction or spread of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in United Republic of Tanzania.

The Plan has been prepared to guide the government and the partners responsible for animal and public health to respond to threats and occurrences of avian and human pandemic influenza. The development of this Plan is in accordance with the revised global pandemic phases as provided for by the World Health Organization (WHO) pandemic plan 2005.

The plan is intended to be applicable to the United Republic of Tanzania and is composed of three parts, part one is the General concept and disease background, part two, the Tanzania Mainland plan and part three is the Tanzania Zanzibar plan.
