The purpose of the Disaster Management Act of 2012 is to provide for the establishment of institutions for disaster risk management in Namibia; to provide for an integrated and coordinated disaster management approach that focuses on preventing or reducing the risk of disasters, mitigating the severity of disasters, emergency preparedness, rapid and effective response to disasters and post-disaster recovery; to provide for declarations of national, regional and local disasters; to provide for the establishment of the National Disaster Management Risk Fund; and to provide for incidental matters.
