The 2015/2016 El Niño induced drought was the worst the country has experienced in over thirty-five years. In 2016, the National Emergency Response Mitigation and Adaptation Plan (NERMAP) 2016-2022 was developed and implemented with success during the response phase of the first year.

In January 2017, the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) convened a three-day learning for all stakeholders to reflect on their experiences during the response to the El-Niño drought. The learning event was held at Happy Valley Hotel on 18-20 January 2017. Over 80 participants attended this Learning event coming from over 20 organizations that were part and or impacted by the response of the 2015-2016 National Response. This report summarizes the main conclusions of this event regarding promising practices, lessons learnt and the respect recommendations of the response.
