The government has acknowledged the country’s vulnerability to climate change and natural hazards in the National Development Plan 2019/20 to 2021/22, specially the increasing frequency and intensity of droughts, having established the improvement of national and community resilience to Natural Disasters as a goal.
This report provides detailed findings of an investigation into the socioeconomic impacts of the 2015/16 El Niño drought in Swaziland. It records the direct and indirect effects of the drought on the economy of Swaziland and documents how it has affected households, businesses, and the environment.

The Annual assessment’s objectives were to understand the status of livelihood sources in the rural and urban areas, thus to determine levels of food insecurity amongst populations, estimating vulnerable populations facing food insecurity and establish forms of coping mechanisms adopted during periods of food insecurity.
The purpose of the 2015 Annual Assessment was to assess the status of livelihoods and vulnerability in rural households and provide timely information for programming and decision-making.
