The main goal of the preparedness plan is to reduce morbidity and mortality from chikungunya and dengue. Consequently, the focus during epidemic phase is containment and mitigation while during the quiescent interepidemic phase is early warning by surveillance and control. Hence the surveillance objectives will accordingly be different in each phase.
