Climate Change

Recovery efforts defined within the NDRF are guided by a central vision and goal. Following the 2015 floods, an initial vision and goal were determined; these have been updated in response to the 2015/16 drought.

An Act to provide for the comprehensive management of existing and future disaster risks, for the institutional framework and funding arrangements for the management of disaster risk and other matters connected therewith and incidental thereto.

Government and humanitarian partners worked together to develop a response plan based on the analysis of the context, immediate humanitarian need and projected needs for the coming three months given. Aware of the development challenges represented by risks and disasters, Madagascar finalized its first National Strategy for Risk and Disaster Management (SNGRC) in 2003. By being annexed to the national policy on risk and disaster management which was adopted during of the same year, this strategic document is an integral part of the said policy.

To address the serious threats of desertification and the degradation of its natural resources, Madagascar has adopted a National Action Plan (NAP) to combat desertification aligned with the ten-year strategic framework plan 2008-2028.

The Government has developed the National Resilience Strategic Framework (NRSF) to enable it to guide, coordinate and lead the process of resilience building in the country to ensure that Lesotho find a durable solution to address the multi-faceted challenges posed by climate induced shocks and stresses.

The policy provides strategic directions and coordination on issues of climate change, cognizant of its linkages with sustainable development. It identifies major vulnerable areas and risks presented by climate change.

The purpose of national disaster risk reduction policy is to provide a framework for effective planning and implementation of disaster risk reduction in Lesotho. More than 90 percent of disasters in Lesotho are related to climatic changes.
